COVID 19 Confirmed Case

NOTIFICATION OF CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASE ON CAMPUS

9/22/2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

In keeping with Fruitvale’s practices to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families that a student who was lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 was present on the campus of Fruitvale Middle School on September 22, 2020. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her. The student was exposed off campus and it was not a result of community spread on campus.

The local health department has begun a case investigation and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the infected individual. All students and staff that came into close contact will be directly notified no later than the end of the day on September 23, 2020. Those that were in close contact will remain off campus for up to 10 days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread. We will keep you apprised of further updates.  If your child was in close contact with this student, you will receive notification, and if you would like for your child to return to campus prior to October 1st then you will need to submit a negative COVID-19 test. Otherwise, your child will remain off campus in quarantine for 10 days.  Students may begin virtual learning immediately as to stay on track with on campus classes. We will be sending out virtual student information to all families involved, so that students may immediately stay on track with their classes. Brittany Owens is our virtual teacher that will be available to support student learning at home.

This information was provided after school on 9/22/2020 and custodians immediately went to clean all rooms this student attended on 9/21/2020 and 9/22/2020.While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, we ask that you, as always watch for symptoms of COVID-19.

Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

  • Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
  • Sore throat;
  • New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
  • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

We encourage anyone in the Fruitvale Middle School community who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 to please notify our school by contacting Rebecca Bain or Karla Hance at 903-896-4729.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Bain

Superintendent Fruitvale ISD
