PROGRAMS:

ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM

Reading is one of the most important skills children will ever learn. The children who read well-and love to read-will excel in school and achieve personal growth. The staff at Hallie Randall Elementary is committed to this belief. Accelerated Reading (AR) is a computer based reading motivational system currently used by more than 40,000 schools in North America.

Accelerated Reading has three main objectives:
1) to dramatically improve student reading performance, as measured by standardized tests,
2) to improve student's critical-thinking skills,
3) to instill in students a lifelong love of reading.

MOBY MAX AND TUTORIALS

Using an array of technology programs, students strengthen their reading, math, writing, and skills. Students work at their own pace during a tutorial time in the instructional day in their area of need.

GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM

All teachers at Hallie Randall Elementary are Gifted and Talented certified. Kindergarten through fifth grade participate in this active program independently, with their grade level peers, and with their G/T peers. The curriculum in all of the elementary classes focuses on the development of theses abilities:

1. Stimulation of curiosity and interest
2. Development of creative cognitive ability
3. Development of leadership skills
4. Development of independence
5. Development of self-expression
6. Provisions for a rapid pace of learning
7. Integration of math, science, social studies, and language arts

Nominations to this program may be made by teachers or parents. Students must qualify to enter the program.  Students are tested twice a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring.  Contact the elementary office for nomination forms.

CHARACTER EDUCATION PROGRAM
We realize that learning is hindered when students do not possess the character traits needed to work cooperatively and independently. We recognize that teacher-student and student-student interactions must be structured with care-especially when dealing with behavior issues and their underlying character traits, values and attitudes. Our campus believes in character education and encourages all students to make good choices in everything they do.

LITERACY EVENTS
Our wonderful librarians work to provide our students with activities that promote reading.  It helps children understand that reading can be fun and fundamental to success in life. We want our students to become life long readers. We invite various guest readers, special interactive activities, and special reading days to promote reading among our students.

NINE WEEKS AWARDS PROGRAM

At the end of each nine weeks, we recognize and honor those students who have excelled. We invite parents and the community to attend. Our students are honored in the following areas:

  1. A Honor Roll
  2. Honor Roll
  3. Perfect Attendance
  4. Met AR goal for the six weeks
  5. AR Step Award
  6. Citizenship Award
  7. Character Award
  8. Team Player Award
  9. Classes who reach 97% attendance

OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF:

TECHNOLOGY
Technology is an integral part of Hallie Randall Elementary. Staff and faculty have been trained in the latest instructional techniques. All classrooms have LCD projectors, document cameras, have wireless access, and access to digital cameras. All students have access to chrome books in our classrooms (1:1 ratio).  Also, most of our classrooms are equipped with touch interactive boards. Our teachers strive to give the best in technology instruction to our students so they will be successful in their future.

INTERVENTION
All of our instructional aides have been trained to work with individuals or small groups. They work on letter and numbers recognition, fluency word lists, Accelerated Reading tests, assist during center time and much, much more. This additional assistance helps reinforce concepts the students have been unable to retain or master from classroom instruction.

INCLUSION
Every child is encouraged to maximize his/her potential by being involved with instruction in an inclusive classroom setting. Special education teachers and general education teachers work and plan together to best meet the needs of the child.

PARENTS and COMMUNITY:

VOLUNTEERS
We welcome volunteers on our campus. We love volunteers at HRE!!!  Parents and community volunteers of all ages are a great resource for us. They give of their time to individuals and small groups needing that little extra attention or assistance. Our volunteers are valuable. Please contact the elementary office if you are interested.
